About the Art My paintings are a process of exploration. There are no messages other than to reveal the discoveries made during the process. I may take cues from my surroundings, on the Pacific West Coast of Canada, or from a favourite classical piece of music, but not as images and not intentionally. There is a bit of a plan when I begin, but I am quickly directed by the work, answering the needs, sorting the puzzles and discovering the solutions. I work with thick and thin layers over a textured surface. Traces are left by assorted mark makers, lines are curved or gestural, surfaces are wiped, dripped, spattered, all adding to an eventual sense of accumulation. The process is reactive, intuitive and playful. I trust my intuition in painting; when my painting sings, and the technique that I have created uncovers elements of myself, it is incredibly rewarding.
